The national security of a free nation is threatend by secrecy. How on earth can the people govern themselves via elected represenitives when in fact the actions of those represenitives are kept secret from the people ?

It seems to me that our government is more interested in insuring its own survival as oppossed to that of the people.People have a right to life, not governments, espeacialy governments that no longer represent the will of the people whom that government was meant to serve.

In effect nuclear war represents a goverments absolute failure.A failed government is an illigitimit one.Our nation can survive any crises as long as the ideas of self government survives amongst any number of citizens.A secretive, non represenitive government that can not avoid nuclear confrontation is a greater threat to our survival than any actual crises. The only greater threat would be a people eager to be subserviant to a government which seeks its own ends rather than serve the people.

Agree with Kevin above. So what that it's a government installation. It's been there for ages and used by every administration. And i'm sure Joe is right too that they let these become semi-public to better hide newer installations.
I'm all for a small government, but I'd rather keep things like this completely secret as to not hurt national security.

Interesting piece on Mt Weather. I have to wonder though, since it was built in the 1950s, how obsolete ...or at least lagging edge.. it is. Has it maybe been downgraded to the place where Dennis Kucinich & Larry Craig will be brought during the apocalypse to dine on govt Spam & Ritz crackers until supplies are exhausted - while REAL movers & shakers go to newer state-of-the-art locations we can't even dream of?

I don't get it. There is a military installation there, so what. Yeah FEMA screwed up with Katrina, big deal, Government screw ups happen. The installation has more than likely been used by every administration for a very long time, including the 'criminal administration' (where are the crimes?) as you call it now.
