My First iPhone Game: Triple Play Poker
Thursday, Nov 13, 2008, 9:39 am | In General, iPhone ProjectsI’ve been working on a TON of iPhone applications and games lately. And as of this past Tuesday night, the very first of these got released on to the iTunes App Store. It’s called “Triple Play Poker.”
Here’s the obligatory game description and hype machine copy that explains what the game is all about: “With Triple Play Poker™, you have the chance to play three poker hands at once with bets of up to five credits per hand. You can bet one credit per hand, one credit on all hands, or the max number of credits on all hands. You then tap Deal and the first hand is dealt to you face up. Based on what you were dealt, you tap which cards to hold and those cards are then held in all three hands. After holding the desired cards, you tap Draw and the rest of the cards are dealt. Since each hand is dealt from its own 52 card deck, you’re effectively playing three hands at once and you’ve got three chances to win big!”
I had a ton of fun making this game, and it was definitely a great learning experience for developing iPhone apps. I’d love to know anyone and everyone’s thoughts on the gameplay, graphics, etc. So don’t be shy! Let me know what you think of the game! Go ahead and post a comment below, or use the iTunes link below to review it on the App Store.

Revision3 iPhone App (Work In Progress)
Friday, Nov 7, 2008, 9:49 pm | In GeneralToday, I’m announcing that I’m working on a native iPhone application that will allow people to watch all of Revision3’s content on the go. The goal is to have it be the quintessential be-all-end-all Rev3 content app. Many others have tried and come up short. I also want to make it very social, so I want the complete opinions, advice, suggestions and hate mail from the Rev3 community and the internet as a whole so I can make it as perfect as possible right out of the gate. As for release dates and such, the project is about half to three-fourths done. The screen-shots shown above are what the app looks like currently but could and probably will change a bit by release.
Leave any suggestions/comments/concerns/hate/love in the comments please. I want to make the app great for everyone, so any and all input is welcome!
Who Put The ‘M’ Back In MTV?
Tuesday, Oct 28, 2008, 11:33 am | In General
Its been over 25 years since MTV launched onto television airwaves and changed the landscape of music forever. Some (most actually) would argue that recently there’s been somewhat of a decline of actual “Music Videos” being played on the station and its sister networks. Well all those nay-sayers can say no more because MTV has dived head first back in to the Music Video business by launching MTV Music. A brand new video sharing site the likes of which has been a long time coming. Not only did MTV pull out all the stops and release their ENTIRE video catalog onto the internet for free on-demand streaming and embedding, they’ve also built in some awesome community and social features as well as an API for developers to take all this data and build cool apps on top of it.

33 Facts You Didn’t Know About Sarah Palin
Thursday, Sep 4, 2008, 1:39 pm | In PoliticsElements Stack Demo
Wednesday, Aug 6, 2008, 9:57 am | In GeneralIn my on going effort to explain to people what TileStack is all about, I’ve created another demo stack to show off the power of the technology. I made this stack in just a little under an hour. It is a period table stack that can be embedded, viewed and referenced just about anywhere.
I’ve embedded the stack below, so you can check it out. Again, this was created using the “Speak” language which is heavily based on the old HyperCard syntax.
So I can say things like set the icon of button "Element Phase" to "solid.png" and it will set the background image of the button to that image, thus indicating the phase of the element the user just clicked on.
The language is very easy to pick up and is well documented (getting better every day) here: http://tilestack.com/help/topics.
Anyways here’s the stack running, play around with it, let me know what you think:
Oh and Here’s a screenshot of it even running on an iPhone (through our spiffy iPhone web interface):
Time For An Update
Wednesday, Jul 23, 2008, 8:00 pm | In GeneralSo its been a while since anything substantial was posted here on my blog. That’s not cool. Shame on me. Well to remedy this situation, I’m posting something. Not just any something, but a preview of what’s to come.
Not only have I been working on a full re-design of thejakemarsh.com - I’ve also been working on a system for live streaming and chat using Ustream.tv. Both of which are reflected in the spy shot below.
So everyone can look forward to that.
Other than that, I’ve been busy with the day job. (http://tilestack.com for the curious) Been redesigning and re-factoring and reinventing the code base there, gearing up for a pretty substantial release. We’re going to have user invites and such, its going to be an all around good time.
Today was an interesting day for the internet. Not only did Facebook launch a few things at their F8 Keynote, but Twitter had a bit of a near death experience. As of 5:30 PM CST I had almost 0 followers and I followed 0 people. That would be a decrease of about 1500% or so I guess. Turns out a screw-up over at Twitter HQ was to blame, affected almost every single user and they’ve (as of about an hour ago) started restoring all the data from a backup made 12 hours prior. Which is fine I guess, but man, can you just imagine if another large site had a data loss this large and widespread? If Digg, Facebook, MySpace or YouTube just started reporting that you had no views, friends or comments on your wall, the internet would revolt. It’d be like the 60’s riots for the digital age. Just a thought. Twitter, lets not let this happen again.
Also, MANY of you have written asking about the winner/details of my iPhone contest. While I’m not quite ready to announce anything yet, I can say there will still be a winner. So everyone can relax on that front. I promise an update is coming on that real soon.
In closing, I guess just keep your eyes peeled on the site. Subscribe to my RSS feed! Like no seriously, right now. Click this link right here and subscribe. It will change your life. Well not really, but it may enhance it slightly.
